Hybrid Golf Clubs and the Distance Gap

Hybrid Golf Clubs and the Distance Gap

Golf Clubs

Hybrid golf clubs have many, many benefits, but there is one problem that golfers switching over will face. That problem relates to the distance gap. What is the distance gap? How can the distance gap be avoided? Should the distance gap issue impact my decision to buy hybrid golf clubs?

One of the most immediate benefits I noticed right after I switched to a hybrid 3 and 4 related to increased distance. I normally would hit my 3-iron between 190-200 yards, that is when I could hit it at all. My 4-iron would be in the 180-190.

Now, that has changed with the hybrids. I hit my hybrid 3 between 200-220, I've even caught one that went 245. Of course that was a little downwind. I also hit the hybrid 4 190-200 max. I hit my regular 5 iron about 170-175 max. Hence the problem that many hybrid golf club owners face. What do I hit when I'm between 175 & 190 yards out?

Switching to the hybrid golf clubs caused a 15 yard gap in my game that I no longer have a full club to hit.

These are your options you have available to bridge that gap:

Better course management. This is probably the worst suggestion, but it's also the only option that won't cost you any money. You simply play your round with the conscious effort of not putting yourself in the gap range. For example, my gap is between 175-190. That means I don't leave myself with an approach shot in the range. I have to position my drives and layup shots better to give myself a full swing into the green. If I get in this gap zone, I either under-swing or over-swing. This option will likely cost you a stroke per round.

Buy a club to fill the gap. In my case, I just needed to buy a hybrid 5 to cancel out my 175-190 yard gap. This means that I carry a hybrid 5 for the 175-190 and a regular 5 for the 175 and below. This also means that I am 1 club over my 14 club limit. For me, it's a course by course decision and it all depends on the length of the course. If it's a short course, I'll leave out the regular 5 iron in favor of that extra wedge. If it is a long course, I'll pull a wedge in favor of both 5's. You have to figure out what works for you in that situation.

Buy a full hybrid and game improving set. Callaway, Cleveland, Adams and all the other major manufacturers are producing full sets now that have hybrid long irons and game improving short irons. These clubs are manufactured to eliminate the distance gap and give you a more normal distance progression.

For me, it is adding the extra club. I really like my scoring irons to be traditional. However, I have a friend that just bought the Cleveland HiBore's and he has knocked off about 8 strokes off his game. Again, that's golf for you. It's all about what you want and what you are comfortable with.

Golf Shafts - The Engine of the Golf Club

Golf Shafts - The Engine of the Golf Club

Golf Clubs

It's been said that golf shafts are the "engine" of the golf club. When I think of updating my golf equipment each spring, I don't think about buying new golf clubs until I've evaluated my shafts. Let me show you why placing a premium on your golf shafts can pay big dividends.

First, let me pose a general question only to make a point. What is the only thing between your hands and the club head? The answer is obviously the golf shaft -- 46 inches of high end technology. That same technology has a huge influence on how your shots are shaped and how far the ball will ultimately travel. For example, instead of hitting a 240 yard, slight unwanted fade with a shaft that has a wrong kick point. Using a premium shaft with the right kick point might result in a 260 yard slight draw!

Why does technology play such a big role? Well, each year, the major shaft makers put an astronomical amount of money into their R&D to keep pace with other shaft makers. And, with a little luck, that R&D might pay off with an advanced design or technology that allows their shaft to outperform their competitors. This has happened many times in recent years. For example, Rifle Project X shaft has frequency matching, stepless design, rifling, and flighted technology. Fujikura has the Triax technology. And Aldila boasts the Next-Generation Micro Laminate technology with Carbon Nano Tubes. Bottom line, shaft technology advances at a rapid rate and you would be best served to take advantage of it.

One other very important point. A fitting is an absolute must in order to determine the best shaft for your game. Don't skimp on this process. The same way the right shaft will better your game, the wrong shaft will adversely affect your game.

There are many shaft makers constantly improving the design and technology of their shafts. Some of them include Aldila, Fujikura, Grafalloy, Graphite Design, Penley, Harrison, True Temper and UST to name a few. Each shaft has their own strengths and will play a little differently than the next one.

Golf shafts are truly an underrated piece of equipment. One that quite frankly, should get more attention to help golfers better their game. Golf shafts are truly the "engine" of the golf club. You owe it to yourself to see if a shaft upgrade will improve your game.

Irons have the widest range of use of any set of clubs. An iron is the most versatile club in your bag. And you cant get close to the hole without one. Yet the average golfer never takes the time to improve his iron play. Thats why hes average. Go to any driving range and youll see what Im talking about: Guys trying to knock the ball into the next county with drivers that look like upside down mailboxes. Because the three things most golfers care about these days are distance...distance...and more distance. But what good is being able to belt the ball 300 yards if it takes you three more shots to hit the green? Having a decent drive is important, of course. But youve got to be able to follow up your drives with solid iron play. That is, if you want to be able to hit your approaches shots a whole lot closer to the pin.

Choosing the Right Clubs at the Golf Course

Choosing the Right Clubs at the Golf Course

Golf Clubs

Choosing the right golf clubs to use on a golf course can be intimidating to new golfers. This is why it is important when learning to play golf to use each club in order to understand how it is used and what it can do on the course. Once you have become a better golfer, you will be able to make these decisions very easily. You may also develop a fondness for one or two clubs and not use the rest. Because each golfer is different, golf sets include woods, irons, and putters. Most people use their putter once they reach the green, however.

When choosing your club, you should assess the situation and calculate how far you need the ball to go in order to maintain a good score. Woods will drive the ball farther than an iron, but if you prefer to use an iron, you can send your ball pretty far. If you are ever unsure about which clubs to use, choose one you are the most comfortable with as this will give you the best shot at getting your ball to its destination.

If you decide to hire an instructor to help you perfect your game, you should ask specific questions about clubs to see if they have any advice or tips about which to use in certain situations. Many times, you will have to choose a club and stick with it until the next round.

Another place to find advice from is your local golf club. If you decide to join one, you will be able to ask other golfers which clubs they use and when they use them the most. Talking with other golfers is a great way to learn more about the game while getting to know people. Sooner or later, you may be golfing with people at the club, so you should strike up conversations in order to learn more about the game and the people who play it.

Some golfers do not use more than one or two clubs when playing golf. This is because over the years they have defined their comfort zone and are unwilling to make changes. But good golfers are always up for the challenge and want to try new clubs, stances, and techniques in order to become even better. Challenge yourself by reaching for a club you never used before or one you didn't have much success with in the past. You will find that by increasing your abilities your game will improve and you will have a much better time when golfing on golf courses on the Spanish Costa Blanca.

Loxahatchee Club - Golf Resorts in Florida

Loxahatchee Club - Golf Resorts in Florida

Golf Clubs

Jupiter and the Palm Beach Gardens area are known for exclusive and prestigious golf and country clubs, but some stand out a little more than others. These clubs are known for the small number of members, understated personalized service, attention to service and detail, and caddies on the golf course.

Among this group of exclusive clubs is The Loxahatchee Club. It is built on 340 acres with 71 acres of lakes and 40 acres of greenspace situated in central Jupiter. The Club can easily be overlooked by the casual passerby as homes sit nestled quietly behind a guarded entrance and a perimeter heavily planted with tropical foliage. The Club is built around a Jack Nicklaus signature golf course and was recognized in 2009 as the #9 in the "Platinum Clubs of America" which celebrates America's top 235 private clubs.

There are 285 homes each distinctly unique and reflect the owner's conception of what life in Jupiter can be. When considering a home you can choose from golf course views, lake views and a few vacant homesites in the half acre size are still available for you to put your dreams onto paper and then see them constructed. Existing homes here range in size from 1,500 square feet to around 10,000 though most are in the 4,000-5,000 square foot range. Homes have been constructed since the mid-1980's, so there are different architectural styles throughout the existing homes.

Living in The Loxahatchee Club, you will be close to other clubs like Admirals Cove, Jonathan's Landing and Jupiter Hills. While there is no ocean access here, if boating, fishing or sailing are of interest you can keep your yacht or sailboat at marinas like Seasport, Blowing Rocks or Soverel Harbour.

12 Golf Tips For Pitching

12 Golf Tips For Pitching

Golf Clubs

Pitching is a very important aspect of golfing; however, it is often ignored by most amateur golfers.

A great pitching game could take off several strokes from your handicap. Pitching is very useful especially when you need to hit above trees, water hazards and bunkers. Here are some golf pitching tips:

1. Do not look at your shot after making it. A lot of people are so excited to see how their shot goes, but watching it often turns into disaster.

2. Keep on focusing to deliver a mild downward wallop to your golf ball.

3. Try using lofted clubs for pitching. A sand wedge, pitching wedge, or a lob wedge usually does well for this. If you do not know which of your clubs is a pitching wedge, look at the sole of that club and look for the PW mark, sometimes you would just see a W or rarely, a number 10.

4. Position the ball at the center of your stance.

5. Depending on the length of you shot, your backswing should be shoulder-high, standard full-swing, or shoulder-high.

6. While standing on the tee or the fairway, always thing about the next shot you are about to make. Do not focus so much on the yardage that the hole has.

7. Instead of holding your club directly down the lower part of your grip, take hold of it. Hold it as if you are doing a chip. Keep your grip at the center.

8. Incline your body's weight for about 60 to 40 percent on your forward foot.

9. Keep the butt or the top of your club pointing to your forward leg.

10. Be sure to take your club straight to the back as you swing.

11. In your follow through, try brushing the ground using your club's head.

12. Take these tips on the course and practice as much as you can.

If you have not paid attention to your golf pitching, it is about time you check out how you pitch. Use these tips and see how quickly you improve your pitching.

Golf Club Suggestions For High-Handicapper's, Mid-Handicapper's and Low-Handicapper's Bags

Golf Club Suggestions For High-Handicapper's, Mid-Handicapper's and Low-Handicapper's Bags

Golf Clubs

How do you know which clubs are best for you? Your budget and skill level will be part of your decision as to which clubs to choose. However, here are some guidelines. These are only guidelines. If you have a favorite club that is not listed, keep it.

The High-Handicapper's bag:

3-wood

5-wood, 7-wood

5-iron through 9-iron

pitching wedge

putter

If you are a High-Handicapper, you would be better off not spending your money on a Driver. A Driver for a High-Handicapper puts them farther off the fairway, not farther down the fairway, so stay away from a Driver at this time.

The Mid-Handicapper's bag:

driver

3-wood, 5-wood, 7-wood

4-iron through 9-iron

pitching wedge

sand wedge

putter

You might want to add a lob wedge or gap wedge to this assortment. You may also consider adding a fairway wood.

The Low-Handicapper's bag:

driver

3-wood

2-iron (or substituting a gap wedge for the 2 iron) through the 9-iron

pitching wedge

lob wedge

sand wedge

putter

Remember, the "Rules of Golf" allow you to carry a maximum of 14 clubs in your bag. After all is said and done, use the clubs you feel comfortable with

Now that you have a guide as to which clubs are best for you, let us talk about how to solve some problems which you might encounter in your golf game. Here are some suggestions for solving those problems. Suppose you hit a nice drive but it drifts right and off the fairway into the trees. How do you recover from this shot? A rule of thumb is that when you are in trouble, take the shortest, safest shot back onto the fairway. However, there are some choices to recover your shot. One suggestion is to take a wedge and loft the ball back onto the fairway and on the next shot hit safely to the green

Golf Swing Help For the Older Golfer

Golf Swing Help For the Older Golfer

Golf Clubs

As you get older you lose some of your ability to turn your torso on your back swing, so it's important to replace that power loss with a power gain elsewhere. You can accomplish this by making a freer arm swing which doesn't depend so much on flexibility. The following drills teach you to use your arms as major source of power.

Turn your shoulders, swing your arms.

Hang your arms. At address, your arms should hang freely from your shoulders. If they start too close to your body, they won't have enough room to swing freely. Extending your arms too far, on the other hand, causes tension, which in inhibits a free swing. Make sure you have 6 inches of clearance between the butt end of the club and your body.

Turn, then finish. Don't start your back swing with your arms. Take the club from address to hip by height by rotating your shoulders. Your arms simply follow. That's a classic one- piece take away. Focus on rotating your shoulders as you start the club back along the target line. Once the club head reaches your hips, your arms takeover, swinging the club to the top

Here is a drill. Take a 5-iron, swing it back to hip height, and stop. Now pretend you're starting your swing with the club at hip height. Swing to the top, then swing down and hit the ball. You should have the feeling that your arms are generating most of the clubhead speed. The trick is that your shoulders are helping too, but the second half of the back swing is where your arms take over.

Best Golf Grip Tips

Best Golf Grip Tips

Golf Clubs

Any golfer who wants the best performance out of the golf tournament must learn the golf grip tips. Talk of Tiger Woods, Nancy Lopez, Ben Hogan and the rest known world golf pros, none of them entered the list of the best golfers without having worked on their grips. It should be known that the only point of contact between a golfer and the club is the grip. A bad golf grip may not enable a golfer make good golf swing and this is why every golfer-beginners and pros need to make good use of the grip tips to help them improve their scores.

But what are the perfect golf grips that can make a golfer improve his or her performances? To get the best grip, it is advisable that the practicing golfer will always work on every method learnt from the golf grip tips. First and importantly, to get the best golf grip, ensure that the golf club is held with your right hand. Your left hand should naturally hang from your shoulder and your hand maintained down on the side of the golf grip. While doing these, the left hand should slightly turn inwards towards the golfer body.

Secondly, the left hand should be brought forward from its hanging position and placed against the golf club grip. While doing these, the shaft should shaft of the club should run from thicker pad of the palm and proceed diagonally downwards. It is recommended that it should run about 6mm from the base of the index finger to the middle joint of the index finger.

The fourth golf grip tips require that the left hand fingers form the best golf club grip. A golfer should not grip the golf club tightly to ensure that no excess pressure is applied on the grip. The golf club grip should not be like a person squeezing out something out of the club. The thumb should be placed on top of the golf grip towards the center as the golfer look down. The left thumb should not be pushed far towards the bottom of the club grip. The feeling of a solid grasp on the club will prevent the thumb from supporting the club during backswing.

Lastly and profoundly, bring the right hand in case of the right-handed golfers from its normal position and place the club into the fingers. The right thumb and the index should form a sort of prompt around the club. Let the little finger be rested on the groove formed by the first and the second fingers of the left hand. With these golf grip tips, you can be assured of the best performance like Nick Faldo.

Golf Swing Positions - 3 Positions You Must Perfect in Order to Hit Great Golf Shots!

Golf Swing Positions - 3 Positions You Must Perfect in Order to Hit Great Golf Shots!

Golf Clubs

A lot of inaccurate information is floating around the internet about the golf swing and golf swing positions. Some people have come up with things that do not even make sense, while others have come up with some really good swing ideas and products to help the beginner, average, and advanced golfers. Today I am going to discuss 3 positions in the golf swing that you must get right if you want to play great golf and shoot lower scores.

1. The first position is when the club is hip high in the backswing, and I like to call this the toe up position. When you begin your backswing you should take the club away slowly and low to the ground in order to establish a wide arc and good tempo. When the club reaches hip high the toe of it should be pointing to the sky, and the shaft should be parallel with your body. Getting out of position here can cause a host of other problems in the golf swing.

2. The second position is at the top of the backswing. You need to make sure that your club is roughly parallel to the ground, and that the face of the club is in line with your left forearm (for right handed players). This will ensure that you are in a powerful and accurate position at the top of the backswing, which will produce solid golf shots.

3. The third thing that you need to do is make sure that your impact position is right. The left hip should be cleared out of the way, and you should be coming into the ball on a shallow angle of attack with a square club face. Doing this will ensure proper contact and better shots.

Golf swing positions are very important, but the most important aspect of golf is having a simple swing that is repeatable under pressure.
